Post 08: Looking Back On This Term
In this online English class, I have learned many ways to improve my writing skills. This is my first college class so the transition from high school to college was a little tricky. Despite the struggle, one of the most important things I learned was to improve on my writing. I have learned how to use "I" in my essays and to try and relate to my audience more instead of sounding like a robot. I also learned about the communications triangle and the purposes it holds for an essay. This made me understand how to organize my thoughts and I also learned how to analyze my essay and other students' essays.
When it came to a topic that was least important in this class all I could really think of was the reading portion was a challenge. Taking this class online has been a major struggle for me so when I would have to read the essays for an assignment, it wasn't the easiest. Other than my great skills in procrastination, the class topics were very enjoyable, and I appreciated every week that passed by. This class has also taught me to improve on said procrastination and not fall behind. It was almost like a rude awakening for me because this was nothing like high school where your teachers hold your hand and almost give you the easy "A". I have learned that you are on your own for passing and your choices are the sum of your grade.
I hope my reading and writing skill will improve more the more classes I take moving forward and I also hope those classes will be as interesting as this class was. Although it was short-lived, once I enroll in a fuller semester it will be much different, and more topics will be discussed. I also appreciate my peers that helped me improve on my essays when it came to the peer reviews. Having a second opinion on my writing helps me see mistakes and I can correct them. Overall, a very nice college class coming right out of high school and a nice introduction to the new college life.
This also is my first official college writing class. I agree with you with learning how to use "I" in my writing. Personally i could not come up with a least important topic but i do agree the reading was not much fun but i believe all the reading tied back to the lesson.
ReplyDeleteNot only did this class improve my writing skills, I believe it has improved my reading skills as well.
ReplyDeleteMan, I'm with you on the procrastination bit. It's something I continually struggle with. "Your choices are the sum of your grade," I couldn't have said it better. Here's to both of us conquering our procrastination habits and having a successful college career
