Post 04: Rhetorical Context

      To break down things we see we use rhetorical analysis to find the true meaning and understand what the text is trying to say. Rhetorical is in the form of a triangle with other things surrounding that triangle, consisting of the writer, the audience, and the subject. In the middle of the triangle is the purpose and outside of the circle is the context. With this, we can use the triangle to understand my essay on testing anxiety.

    The purpose of my essay is to talk about how testing anxiety can stop you from being successful in school and proper solutions on how to control the anxiety with the subject being about some threats that college students struggle with when it comes to excelling academically. The audience is like I've stated college students and the context is about this informative essay trying to bring light on testing anxiety as one of the many things that prevent college students from passing classes. The writer is me who also struggles with testing anxiety and shares my experiences in my essay and tries to relate with anyone else that struggles with this. With the essay now broken down, we can now figure out what the writer (me) was trying to explain and can understand the writer and the text. In the essay "backpacks vs. Briefcases," Laura Carroll says using rhetoric helps make that snap judgment much simpler and allows you to understand the whole point of the rhetoric process; "Understanding the exigence is important because it helps you begin to discover the purpose of the rhetoric. It helps you understand what the discourse is trying to accomplish." (Carroll 49). This means, that knowing the point of the rhetoric will help you know what you use the rhetoric on regarding any essay.

    Using rhetoric can help understand how to break down the meaning of an essay and what the writer is trying to present to the audience. It will help you tap into the mind of the writer and also learn and apply this to your own work that you can analyze. How we can view someone's appearance and try to come up with some sort of information about them makes us feel like we have accomplished trying to solve what we don't fully know, and the same thing applies to trying to view and analyze an essay to gain information and solve what we can through the elements of writing an essay.
